Sun Tzu Daily on YouTube

Every video on this page was made from a lesson that already exists on this site. The written lesson carries the argument — the quotation, where it sits in the chapter, a modern example, the misreading to avoid, and one action to take today. The video carries the rhythm: the same idea in about sixty seconds, in a form you can watch while the plan is still forming in your head.

That relationship is deliberate. A video that only repeats a page teaches the reader nothing the page did not; a page that only transcribes a video leaves nothing to come back to. Here the two readings sit together, and each one points at the other.

The channel also publishes original instrumental music — three long pieces written for planning sessions, deep reading, and the long middle of a problem. Those are at the bottom of this page.

60-second lessons

13 Shorts, newest first. Each one links to the written lesson it was made from.

Chapter 9 · The Army on the March

Mixed Signals Can Be Bait

Partial movement is a lure. This Short reads the Chapter 9 warning that an advance and a retreat shown at the same time is staged confusion — and applies it to why you should never chase a movement without first asking what that movement wants you to do.

Chapter 9 · The Army on the March

The Loudest Threat May Mean Retreat

Words are cheap, preparation is not. This Short works through the Chapter 9 signal — humble words and serious preparation mean advance, violent language means retreat — and shows how hiring, budgets, and supply orders disclose intent long before a statement does.

Chapter 9 · The Army on the March

The Most Dangerous Place Is Halfway Out

Transitions are the danger. This Short takes the line about getting far away from a river once crossed and shows why half-committed moves expose you to both sides at once — the reason to commit fully and move clear instead of hedging.

Chapter 8 · Variation in Tactics

Your Escape Hides in the Problem

Readiness is the rescue. This Short explains the Chapter 8 promise that a prepared mind seizes an advantage inside difficulty — most people only see the damage, and the escape route is usually already present in the crisis itself.

Chapter 6 · Weak Points and Strong

Never Let Your Rival Think in Peace

Initiative is attention control. This Short reads the Chapter 6 line about imposing your will on the enemy and shows that a rival kept reacting spends the hours it needed for thinking, while your side keeps designing.

Chapter 7 · Maneuvering

Never Fight Them at Their Best

Choose the moment, not just the fight. This Short works through the observation that an army’s spirit rises, fades, and finally turns toward home — and why the same opponent is a different opponent at different hours.

Chapter 1 · Laying Plans

Before You Fight, Calculate

The first principle is calculation. This Short opens the Chapter 1 argument — read the situation, compare the conditions, understand the Way, the timing, the terrain, the leadership, and the method before you move — and separates planning from motive.

Chapter 7 · Maneuvering

Strike When Their Strength Is Fading

Strength is never constant. This Short shows how energy rises, peaks, and fades on both sides, and why the art of husbanding your own strength is to arrive near the goal while the other side is still labouring.

Chapter 7 · Maneuvering

Let the Ground Fight for You

Terrain is a force multiplier. This Short works through the axiom about never advancing uphill and never opposing an enemy coming downhill, and shows how repositioning makes the slope fight for you instead of against you.

September 15, 20260:30

Chapter 7 · Maneuvering

Strike When Their Energy Fades

Energy is relative, not literal. This Short reads the line about a soldier’s spirit being keenest in the morning and flagging by noonday, and turns it into a practical question: is your energy rising while theirs is falling?

September 12, 20260:30

Chapter 7 · Maneuvering

Conceal Your Plans. Strike Like Thunder.

Darkness exists for the strike. This Short pairs concealment with speed in the Chapter 7 couplet and separates the two halves: hiding without the capacity to strike is just hiding, and announcing without preparing is lightning without a storm.

Chapter 7 · Maneuvering

Move Fast Without Losing Formation

Wind alone scatters, forest alone arrives late. This Short reads the rapidity-and-compactness couplet and shows why speed only counts when cohesion survives the movement — and how urgency quietly destroys both.

September 4, 20260:30

Chapter 7 · Maneuvering

Don’t Mistake Motion for Progress

Movement is not progress. This Short takes the Chapter 7 rule to move only for a real advantage and shows how a strategy that is always in motion teaches its observers every pattern while buying nothing.

Music for strategy & deep focus

Original instrumental pieces for the work that needs a still room: planning, reading, and long thinking.

Music for strategy & deep focus

Rain on Bamboo

Rain on a quiet bamboo pavilion, scored for thinking rather than for drama. Written for planning sessions, long reading, and the half hour before a decision — the kind of work that needs a still room, not a loud one.

Music for strategy & deep focus

Mist Over the Mountains

Fog thinning over ridgelines, with the paths appearing only as the mist lifts. Built for work that resolves slowly: competitive analysis, study, and the long middle of a project where the answer is not yet visible.

Music for strategy & deep focus

Lantern War Room

A lamplit map room late in the night. This is the most concentrated of the three pieces, written for the hours when you are holding the whole problem in your head and the plan needs to settle rather than move.
